r o s a l i n e x x It was miracle that Rosaline finally had a minute of free time. Usually in the morning, she was busy walking around town, trading one of her craft projects for some necessity, but today, she did not have to do that. She had stocked up on food, clothes, and everything else she needed, and she would finish the sweater set she was knitting later that night, when she was more relaxed and in the mood for simply sitting down and working on something.
So now she actually had time to just do whatever she pleased, time for pleasure. It had been so long since Rosaline had had to decide on what to do for entertainment during the day in Neclymoure.. she found herself wishing their was a theater or something in the town. But there was not, so she decided to take a walk down the streets, barefoot and whistling a tune that was ingrained in her memory (how she got there, she doesn't really know). Eventually she veered off her path and walked through a small patch of grass, towards the stables.
Horses weren't really Rosaline's thing. She thought they were nice to look at and entertaining; some of them were even pretty. But she also thought they were big and dangerous looking. She'd never ride one by herself, or even get to close to a full-grown one. The baby that had been born recently, though-- that thing was just cute, and very possibly the reason Rosaline had decided to pay the barn a visit.
Inside, it was cooler than out in the sun. Only the occasional beam of warmth and light streamed down from a window or open door, so shadows kept the barn at a nice temperature. As Rosaline strolled down the hall of the stables, she thought to herself that it must be empty; it was so quiet. Even the few chickens that had been in the roofs of the place since they very beginning of Neclymoure kept their annoying beaks shut.
One sound traveled down to Rosaline, though, and it pulled her towards a wooden stall. Looking down, Rosaline saw a small horse--the foal, she noted with a quiet, "Aww."--stretching out it's legs. Rosaline thought the legs of the baby looked much too long for the body of it, but hey, she didn't really know all that much about horses, so she wasn't about to ask anyone if it was normal. The stable owner would know about that sort of thing; Rosaline was just hear to watch and smile.
But it was just so cute! Rosaline stuck her hand between the bars, clueless about the biting habits of some curious foals, hoping to be able to pet the little thing. All she got, though, was a curious glance with it's dark, thoughtful eyes. Sighing, she pulled her hand back and simply leaned against the bars, watching the foal stretch out some more and then lay down.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------here's a list of the things you said and i wont get over it, you want to know, you, want to know andthe games that girls will play, makes me move away so ican train, train myself to trust again. oh overhill, will you teach me the games you play so well?----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------so josh didn't really plan to fall asleep inside some stables. in fact, he hadn't planned on falling asleep at all. but he was so tired, after writing all day long, moving from place to place. he'd even had to run away from a dog. they scared him. most things scared him. joshua james waters was alone, with nobody. with nothing. he'd only just earned enough money to get a notebook and pen. getting a place to sleep would cost more, which meant he would have to work more. he didn't like working. especially with people who hated him. everyone pushed him around, because he let them. josh knew it was wrong and that he shouldn't take it. but that was just josh. he'd got a little money left, but that was either to get another notebook or a new pen. he wasn't very good with looking after his things, and even the things he wanted most were not always kept safe in his hands. apart from the picture of his parents of course. he'd never ever lose that. if he did, he wouldn't be able to live with himself. it was hard enough to do that now.
so, back to actually being in a stable, with horses. he was sure one had actually started eating his hair last night. bald patch by horse. interesting story. he was still sleeping, but he knew that he'd moved his hand to rub his head where the horse had nibbled. all his hair was still there. whatever. his hand dropped and he began to dream again. he wasn't comfy, leaning against wood couldn't really ever be comfy. but it was nice and warm in here. warmth was what he needed. he was nineteen, runaway from a care home. with nothing. with nobody. he could hear the noises of the horses in the stalls and he shifted. then he felt the wooden floor beneath him. he groaned, moving his hand slowly to rub his head. josh would soon get up and be on the move again. probably. the floor was cold. joshua turned, banging his head on the wood that was too close. he frowned and dropped back onto his back. so much for a nice sleep.
he blinked his eyes open slowly, looking up to see a horse's face above his own. josh's eyes widened, making the horse move away. he blinked at it as it moved. nice thing to wake up to. josh rubbed his shoulder, feeling like he should really get up now. he sighed and shifted to lean upright against the stall again. maybe he could ask around for a shower or something. he needed one. josh sighed and pulled his shirt off, looking at the bite on his arm from the dog he'd run away from yesterday. it was pretty red, the blood dried. he hated being hurt. josh touched it lightly with his fingers, wincing as the cold tips touched the still open wound. he pulled his hand back, almost as if it were a reflex. josh suddenly stopped. just freezing. the last thing he needed was to be found. but lucky him. josh bit his lip, dropping his shirt slightly. maybe they'd go?
"Aww."
he swore in his head. how could he get out of this one? meh. the answer to that was he couldn't. forgetting about his shirt, josh pushed himself up slowly. he put his hands on the stall and looked across at the girl. woman. whatever. josh blinked and rubbed the back of his neck unconsiously. he waited for a few seconds before finding the courage to speak. r o s a l i n e x x The small foal looked like it fell asleep, and Rosaline started to drift off into a random daydream. It wasn't one in Neclymoure, but it wasn't in the real world, either. It was a forest, a huge one like the world had had centuries ago, and it was buzzing with life and happiness. It was magical, almost, and Rosaline was completely blissful as she skipped through the rows of sky-scraping trees...
Thud. Lids opened and closed rapidly as she blinked back into the present, and Rosaline turned to look at the stall near her. She blinked again, stared at the ginormous (in her opinion) horse inside. Had it kicked the stall? It didn't look angry. Maybe he'd lost his footing. That didn't make any sense, since there wasn't really all that much room for walking and tripping in the stall, but Rosaline dismissed the noise and turned back to the foal. It's eyes were closed and it's breathe was peacefully steady.
A moan then sounded, and Rosaline turned to stare at the horse again. Moans were a very human sound-- she couldn't imagine it coming from that horse. And the horse didn't look like it was in the mood for groaning; it looked fine enough, content. Eyebrows furrowed in confusion but eyes sparkling with curiosity, she shifted her standing position so she could stare at the stall without having to turn her neck.
What was in there? Rosaline almost stepped forward to look, but a head of human hair came into view. She bit her tongue to keep from gasping.
But then she smiled, and her eyebrows raised instead of sunk. What was this person doing in a horse stall.. without a shirt? The site made Rosaline's heart speed up, making her feel a bit guilty because she must be older than this boy, but she pushed that feeling aside and stepped forward to see who it was. "Hi.." she repeated in greeting, hesitant, but smiling still.
"I didn't plan to fall asleep in here."
[/i] Rosaline laughed quietly, then looked away for a second, wondering what he had been doing in the stall to begin with. Oh, well, she guessed it didn't matter all that much. "It's okay." Her voice was quiet at first; she turned back to him. "I'll pretend finding someone sleeping in a stall is normal and won't tell Robyn." Now she was joking, finding the situation sort of humorous. Curiosity started to dominate, though, and she chewed on her bottom lip in thought, then shifted her dark locks so they fell down her left shoulder, letting the cool air breeze across her neck. Noticing a wound on his arm, she frowned; her stomach flipped. She wasn't really bothered with blood, gore, and that sort of thing, but her gut always protested, making her feel like she was falling. Another wave of curiosity took her over and she could no longer hold her questions back. "Um.. what exactly were you doing here, though?" Innocent, but she did really want to know. josh still had his hands on the stall, watching her. he blinked and then smiled. it wasn't something josh did, smile. but there he was. josh frowned, bending down quickly to pick his shirt up. he put his hands back on the stall, blinking at the girl. "I'll pretend finding someone sleeping in a stall is normal and won't tell Robyn." he was already beginning to like her. josh couldn't help the wider smile and the small laugh that came from him at her words. she made him smile, and anyone who could do that was fine with him. "yeah..thanks." he stopped smiling and went to pull his shirt back on. bad idea. he frowned, moving the fabric away from his arm. he needed to ask for a shower, now. josh looked back to the girl and sighed. he'd need to introduce himself first, and he wasn't good at them. "i'm joshua..josh by the way" he smiled again, dropping his arm that was holding his shirt. now he needed to get out of this stall.
josh was kind of grateful she hadn't asked the question he didn't want to answer just yet. but then, nothing ever went right for him. what exactly were you doing here though? josh blinked and then frowned. he didn't want to answer it. and he didn't know how. he'd have to tell her a reason why, or he'd get into trouble, right? maybe he should just tell her he was sleeping? oh whatever. he found the words to say and then cleared his throat. josh laughed lightly before speaking. "sleeping, mostly." he whispered and looked at the floor. "i don't.. haven't got anywhere to go." it was the truth. josh looked back up at her. so here came the cheeky, confident part of him. "look, i don't mean to sound rude, but.. is there any chance of possibly getting a shower around here?" josh bit his lip. "please?" he looked at the floor again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tagged! rosaline rivers word count! 496 lyrics! you me at six - you've made your bed. banner! r o s a l i n e x x Rosaline stared, now a bit worried. The scrape, or whatever it was exactly, on his arm looked painful, it made her flinch in empathetic pain just watching him try to put his shirt on. (And no, she did not acknowledge the fact that part of her wanted him to remain shirtless.)
"No problem," she replied and wasn't sure if she should step any closer or not. He gave her his name and Rosaline smiled in return, happy that he wasn't angered by her casual, joking tone. He was probably hurting due to his injury, after all. Rosaline usually started snapping at anyone who tried to joke with her when she was in a lot of pain. It wasn't that she didn't have good tolerance; she just wasn't in the mood for lightness when she had to deal with anything.
Realizing that he was probably expecting a small introduction from her now, she replied, "I'm Rosaline... just Rosaline." Her smile was playful now, though she had no intention of mocking him. She watched his hand drop and suddenly was uncomfortable with talking to him while he was behind the bars of a stall. She quickly walked forward and grabbed the metal handle of the door, then pulled it open with a little bit of effort. It groaned in protest but eventually opened up enough for a human to escape.
And then she was awful close to his bare chest, so she stepped back again, her expression friendly but a bit gaurded. It wasn't every day that she opened a door for a half-naked boy (or man, whichever you would consider him), and she was wondering what she should do next. He spoke again, though, and she looked down the hall to the right, where all of the stalls were empty. His words made her worried and filled her with more questions, but he focused on what he'd asked her.
"Er... well, not really close to here, I don't think, unless you want to sneak into Robyn's house. I don't think she'd take kindly to you for that. But.. um, you could come to my house, if you need to." Oh, wow. That was kind of.. weird. "I mean, just because I don't know where else you could get a bath with clean water." Her cheeks warmed a bit and Rosaline ignored it, turning back to him.

he watched her move, coming to the stall. opening it would be a good idea, one josh would have thought of if he wasn't so tired. yes, he'd slept all night without any interruptions and he was still tired. he watched her open the gate, stepping forward to help her. but she'd already opened it enough for him to get out. he slipped out, having to stand close to her as he did. he smiled lightly, stepping away from her with one backstep. he rubbed the back of his neck once more before dropping his hand again.
josh watched her as she spoke, wondering why he still couldn't read her. ah, speaking of reading. he checked his back pocket to make sure his notepad and pen were still there. which they were. he smiled and looked back to her. ah, so he'd need to go back to her place to take a shower. then he wondered something, did she know first aid? he needed it. josh would get clean, fix his arm and be on his way, like he'd never even been here before. or maybe he'd made a friend? he pulled his shirt from his arm again, touching the wound with two fingers lightly. yep. he winced, looking at rosaline. "again, i don't mean to sound cheeky, but would you happen to know first aid?"
[/color] he blinked at her and then smiled again. r o s a l i n e x x Rosaline blinked a few times, then laughed again. She hadn't expected him to ask that; it caught her off guard a bit. But she nodded, pursing her lips and now, without hesitation because his shirt was covering what had previously distracted her, she reached out and rolled up his sleeve, getting a closer look. The skin was red around the scab, and she frowned, hoping she wouldn't make him feel odd by examining him like that. Sliding the fabric back down as gently as she could, she looked back at his face.
"It's starting to get infected, but I don't think it's too bad yet," she said, her eyes apologetic, as if she had something to do with him being injured. He was giving off this sort of innocent wave, and Rosaline didn't mean to, but she got caught in it, felt bad for him, wanted to help him. He reminded her of a lost puppy. A cute, fairly hot, lost puppy.
Remembering where her thoughts had been before, she spoke again. "I do think I have some herbs that could help back at my house though," she added. He hadn't agreed to going or not yet, but now Rosaline definitely wasn't going to let him stay in the dusty stables, bound to become even more infected with all the dirt and no clean water, or wander the streets where she doubted he'd find help. Unless he took his shirt off again, she thought with a smile. Someone might help him then.
Not wanting to push him into going with her (because that would be very unusual and she would feel odd if she did), Rosaline stayed quiet, looked into his eyes while waiting for him to speak. And then more heat from what she was guessing was a light blush crept up her cheeks unexpectedly. She turned to shut the stall door swiftly, looking for something to distract her again, until her normal color returned. God, what was wrong with her? She hoped he hadn't seen that.
Once in control of herself again, she stepped over and looked at the door that lead out of the stables. "You shouldn't stay in here much longer; it'll get worse," she said, referring to his gash. Would he feel awkward going back to her house, even if it was just to help himself? Rosaline hoped he wasn't that kind to reject and offer just to keep his pride. But he didn't seem like the egoistic sort, so she wasn't too worried. When she turned back around, away from the bright light of the outdoors, she was smiling again, hoping he would let her help him out a bit.

his face became slightly worried when she said it was starting to get infected already. he sighed and nodded slowly. "thanks" he said quietly. josh rubbed his arm slightly. >_<. he looked at her when she spoke again. so he'd have to go to her house - not that he had rejected the first offer - he didn't want to seem like a user though. he sighed and then nodded. "that would be great, thanks." he said and nodded with another smile. "and the shower too.. would be amazing." he couldn't help smirking. he wasn't the nicest smelling boy right now. and spending a night in a stable wasn't helping that. but it was a smell you could live with, he hoped.
so staying in here was upping the chances of his arm hurting even more. "so we should like..go now?" it was meant to sound like a joke but at the same time, serious. he rubbed the back of his neck again, biting his lip. he had too many bad habits that needed to be taken care of. fast. he sighed and blinked, looking down at the floor. r o s a l i n e x x Seeing him wince, Rosaline sighed and mumbled, "Sorry." She tried to be light and not hurt him, but she could only do much while still being effective.
"That would be great, thanks,"
[/i] Rosaline smiled back. The grinning, it was infectious. She almost felt cheesy with all her echoing happy smiles, but it was fine, because Josh was doing it as well. "You're very welcome," she replied, and got a sudden, overwhelming urge to hug him, which was not normal. It was like the puppy-dog feeling, accept stronger. She had to rip her eyes away again, to stare down the hall. She hoped he wouldn't be offended by her lack of eye contact now. Feeling more calm, she could laugh. "Yeah, showers are nice." She nodded. And then she thought about how she would be sitting in her house while he was taking a showed in the room next door. Naked. But she was only letting him do that because he needed help. Right? Right, of course. That was what she told herself. Thoughts and small bouts of daydreams flowed back in, so when he piped up again, Rosaline automatically turned back her head to stare into his eyes. But she wasn't gazing into his eyes, of course. Because that would be wrong. Of course it would. "Yeah, we should, if you want your arm to get better.." Oops. CRAP! Her voice sounded like she was dreaming. That wasn't what she'd been going for. As if that would excuse her unusual tone, she cleared her throat. Thank God he said something else to distract her. "Oh, you're welcome! Really, don't feel like you owe me or anything," her voice trailed off and she smiled soberly. The thoughts crossing her mind again were absolutely forbidden and she tried to ignore every single one of them. words; 300 notes; crap post, but they be leaving now anywho >.>
